Elements and Performance Criteria

  1. Prepare equipment
  2. Remove materials
  3. Determine job requirements
  4. Comply with work health and safety (WHS) requirements at all times
  5. Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and apparatus in accordance with SOPs
  6. Identify job requirements from specifications, job sheets or work instructions
  7. Lift and maintain die temperatures at the appropriate level
  8. Apply die coat in the correct sequence
  9. Place die on machine and attach and tighten toggle clamps to required torque
  10. Attach air cooling to the die as specified if required
  11. Carry out manual pouring
  12. Identify conditions that contribute to inferior castings or rejects
  13. Allow adequate cooling time
  14. Pour at a continuous and appropriate rate during filling
  15. Monitor condition of die coating condition and re-spray as required
  16. Remove any flash from the die surface
  17. Store parts in a manner that minimises damage
  18. Take chemical analysis of melt and apply remedial action as required
  19. Dross and/or degas furnace
  20. Clean work area of coating and shot residue
  21. Complete reports/records in accordance with SOPs
